Scott Jackson
Scott
continues a tradition of radio talent returning to their roots.
Like his predecessor, Emily Humble, Scott also got his start
in radio a decade ago as a part-time board operator and producer
for KMCD and, at the time, KICK 96 Sports and Remote Broadcasts
in the summer of 1998 between his junior and seniors years
of high school at Pekin. Scott eventually moved up to producing
weekend programming for KMCD and was weekend news and weather
reporter for the station from 1999-2000.
Scott
grew up northwest of Fairfield 'right on the Cardinal-Pekin
borderline' on a farm in Wapello County. He graduated from
Pekin Community High School as part of the 'Class of 2000,'
then took his experiences learned at KMCD and moved on to
Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. While earning
his Associates Degree in Mass Communications, Scott pulled
double-duty in a couple of ways as the Sports Director 'Voice
of Iowa Central Triton Athletics' at Iowa Central's Radio
Station, 88.1 KICB, and as the 'Voice of the Fort Dodge St.
Edmond Gales' on KUEL 92.1 FM. Scott also dabbled in print
media as Sports Editor for Iowa Central's School Newspaper
'The Collegian.'
Before
moving back behind the radio microphone, Scott accepted a
job offer after attending Iowa Central to become the beat
writer of Indian Hills Community College Athletics and other
area sports at the Ottumwa Courier. While working as a sports
writer, Scott earned a Bachlor's Degree from William Penn
University in Buisness. After five years as a sports writer,
Scott returned to radio in 2007 as Sports and News Director
at KLEE-KOTM Radio in Ottumwa before finally returning to
Fairfield last May.
Scott
is happy to be back home, 'brining everything full circle'
to rejoin Sports Director Lee
Muntz, whose sports broadcasts Scott produced 10 years
ago, as well as Program Director Steve
Smith who first brought the Pekin High School student
into the KMCD family in 1998. Besides reporting on and covering
local news events throughout Southeast Iowa, Scott will continue
his other love of radio in calling play-by-play for area high
school sports on Classic 96 throughout the year and will also
host 'The Midday Show' from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Classic 96.
Scott
hasn't gotten too far away from his roots, currently residing
in Agency. "It's a little odd living on the Cardinal
side of the Pekin-Cardinal border, but I enjoy being all the
residents of Southeast Iowa. No matter the community, they
make it feel like home," Scott said. He also said he's
looking forward to bringing local news to all of the KMCD-Classic
96 listening audience
