Jana Sandova and Jennifer Palmer of Ottumwa qualified for the Class 2A girls state singles tennis tournament starting May 29th at Ames. The top seeded foreign exchange student Sandova did not drop a set in reaching the championship match where she won by injury default over the unseeded Bulldog due to illness. Palmer got there with 3 wins including upsets of the 2nd and 3rd seeded players.
Ottumwa had Torrie Centeno and Kayla Wagner finish 3rd in the doubles topping the Bullodgs other duo of Laura Schwenk and Ashley Owens 6-3 in both sets of their final match this season. Both were downed by girls from West Des Moines Valley in the semifinal round.

Fairfield's Rachele Petit 1st In Regional Tennis
Top seeded Rachele Petit of Fairfield took the singles championship of the Class 1A regional tennis tournament the Trojans hosted yesterday. The only set she lost while taking 4 wins was against Katie Schulte from Keokuk in the final. Petit will compete in the state tournament at Decorah May 29th.
In the 3rd set, she trailed 4-5 and had to fight off 2 match points before Schulte suffered an ankle injury and had to default when they were tied at 5 games apiece.
Bonnie Carter and Sheila Higgins of Maharishi School advanced to the 1A state doubles tournament taking 2nd in the Fairfield regional yesterday. The top seeded Pioneers had 3 straight set wins before falling to a duo from Centerville 1-6, 1-6 in the championship match. Fairfield's Kim Thorn and Megan Proctor were 3rd after falling to the eventual champions in the semifinal round.
Fairfield Nipped By Mt. Pleasant In Soccer
The Fairfield soccer team dropped a 1-0 season ending Class 1A substate game against the host Panthers at Mount Pleasant yesterday. The only goal was scored with about 30 seconds left in regulation. Mount Pleasant will now face Columbus Junction tomorrow.

Boys district golf tournaments are going on today and include 3 area teams:

Fairfield on the Copper Creek course hosted by Norwalk at Pleasant Hill
Class 2A-
Van Buren at North Liberty hosted by Mid-Prairie on the Quail Creek course
Class 1A-
Maharishi School on the Pleasant Valley course at Iowa City hosted by Lone Tree
The top 2 teams and 4 individuals qualify for state from each district. If a host school is 1st or 2nd, the 3rd place team also will advance.

Class 1A boys substate tennis in Fairfield tomorrow will have:
Maharishi School meeting on Grinnell at the MUM courts
Keokuk faces Pella at the Fairfield Middle School
Both of those start at 9 and the winners play in the afternoon on the MUM courts for a spot in the final 4
Class 1A girls regional semifinal at 1 tomorrow-
Maharishi School goes against Centerville at the Fairfield Middle School
