IWC Beats Walsh In Womens Basketball

The 13th ranked Iowa Wesleyan womens basketball team took a 79-68 first round game against Walsh University yesterday morning at the NAIA Division 2 national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. The stat leaders included-
Anna Jones 21 points, 6 assists and 5 steals
Jill Ginder 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals
Jessi Beachey 15 points and 8 boards
Sheray Brown 10 rebounds and 8 points
Melanie McCreight 4 assists and 2 steals
They had defeated Walsh 76-55 on December 19th at Whiting, Indiana as past of the Calumet Classic.

The 26-7 Tigers have 15 straight wins and a school record total for one season. IWC will face Jamestown from North Dakota in the 2nd round at 10:15 this morning. This opponent ended a lone Wesleyan home court winning streak early this season on November 27th after pulling out an 83-77 victory at Mount Pleasant. IWC was 2 and 6 at the time but have taken 24 of 25 since then.

Jamestown knocked off Indiana-Southeast 65-58 in the first round yesterday morning
 
Bowling Report Correction

In the Junior League bowling highlights yesterday, Jeff Keller should have been listed with a 171 game on March 6th. Jake Fritts did have a top game of 194 as reported.
 
FF Boys Track At Iowa City

Fairfield was at the Washington indoor boys track meet yesterday in Iowa City. The top performances came from-

15th place-
Mike Smithburg in the shot put

Finishing 17th-
Daniel Schwarz the high jump
and the 4 by 400 relay of Grant Curran, Alex Rebling, Lani Eversage and Michael Hammes

Taking 19th place-
Curran the 60 meter high hurdles
and the 1600 meter medley made up by Zach Simpson, Brandon Kempf, Kyle Love and Jason Davis

A total of 31 schools competed on the University of Iowa campus. Fairfield will go to an indoor meet at Central College in Pella next Friday.
 
Mt. Pleasant Falls To Pella In State Basketball

The top seeded Mount Pleasant boys basketball team lost a 55-42 Class 3A state semifinal contest with Pella last night at Des Moines. The Panthers were led by-
Henry Kreiger-Coble 13 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals
Nick Lyon 10 points and 5 blocks
Scott Hahn 4 assists
Darian Cotton added 3 steals

The 22-2 Panthers play 22-4 Davenport Assumption in the 3rd place game tomorrow at noon. The Knights were nipped by Sioux City Heelan 46-45 in the other semifinal game last night.

The Panthers had defeated Pella 63-61 early in the regular season on December 5th. That game was played at Mount Pleasant, not on the road as reported in the story yesterday.
 
Last Chance To Sign Up For FF Little League

The Fairfield Little League baseball and softball registration deadline is this Saturday March 15th. The forms are available at the Fairfield Public Library or the fairfieldlittleleague.com website. It is open to boys and girls from 4 through 12 years of age. The fee is 40 dollars for a single player, 50 dollars if there are 2 from the same family and a maximum of 60 dollars if you have 3 or more children playing. For more information call Ann at:
